Things You Don’t Know About Lithium Batteries

Leave a message

Lithium batteries are everywhere in our daily lives, from smartphones to electric cars, they are an integral part of our lives. However, do you know those little-known facts about lithium batteries?

1.Lithium batteries are not directly composed of lithium metal

Despite having "lithium" in their name, lithium-ion batteries don't actually contain pure lithium metal. They use lithium ion compounds, such as lithium cobalt oxide, lithium nickel manganese cobalt oxide or lithium iron phosphate. During the charge and discharge process of these compounds, lithium ions will move between the positive and negative electrodes.

2.Lithium batteries were once considered a "dangerous" technology

Before lithium batteries were widely adopted, the technology was once considered "dangerous" due to safety hazards associated with early lithium metal batteries, such as overheating or short circuits that could cause fires or explosions. It was not until the advent of lithium-ion batteries that these problems were significantly alleviated through improved battery structures and the use of safer materials.

3.Lithium batteries also have a "memory effect"

Although not as obvious as nickel-cadmium batteries, early lithium-ion batteries also had a certain degree of "memory effect." This means that if the battery is frequently charged without being fully discharged, the battery may "remember" this lower capacity, resulting in reduced battery life. However, as technology advances, this problem rarely occurs with modern lithium-ion batteries.

4.Lithium batteries have high recycling value

Waste lithium batteries contain large amounts of valuable metals such as cobalt, nickel and lithium. Not only are these metals scarce, they are widely used in many high-tech products. Therefore, recycling lithium batteries can not only reduce environmental pollution, but also recover valuable resources.

Through the above cold knowledge, we can have a deeper understanding of lithium batteries, a technology that is closely related to our lives. Although they appear to be just ordinary components of our daily lives, there are many interesting scientific principles and cutting-edge technologies hidden behind them.
